Drinking lots of water, and other liquids like teas, is very helpful in treating asthma. In the summer heat, make it cool liquids. In the winter cold, make it warm or hot liquids. Also get plenty of vitamin C and eat as much garlic as you can. Ahhh garlic ... how under-appreciated you are!
Boswellia, Frankincense, (Boswellia serrata syn. B. carterii) was clinically proven to be an effective treatment for asthma.
Ginkgo, Maidenhair Tree, Bai Guo (Ginkgo biloba) -- seeds are used to relieve wheezing and to lessen phlegm. The leaves are traditionally used for treating asthma.
Make a decoction using 1 tsp ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) seeds and take 1 tsp two or three times a day.
1) Make an infusion using 3 tsp each of nettle (Urtica dioica) and thyme (Thymus vulgaris) to 3 cups of water and drink throughout the day
2) Make an infusion with 2 heaping tsp of German chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) to 1 cup of water and leave to stand for 10 minutes in a covered nonmetal saucepan. Remove the lid, inhale the steam, and strain and drink the tea.
3) Use German chamomile essential oil in a steam inhalation machine. A few drops of this undiluted oil can also be placed on a handkerchief and inhaled.
An interesting theory shared by Dr. Valerie Ann Worwood is that those suffering with asthma have a very highly developed intuition. They know when others are anxious and this can exacerbate an attack. If this theory is correct, a calm atmosphere will be helpful in prevention.
