Adaptogenic - Helps the body adapt to stress and supports normal function.

Astringent - Tightens mucous membranes and skin, reducing secretions and bleeding from abrasions.

Carrier Oil - An oil used to carry or suspend a substance such as an essential oil (or combination of essential oils) for the purpose of diluting the strength for use.

Contiguous - Being in actual contact. Touching along a boundary or at a point.

Decoction - The liquid from herbs boiled or simmered in water. This method is used for dense parts of the herb, i.e. roots, bark, berries, seeds. (See Infusion.)

Simple - One herb used on its own.

Synergist - An agent (herb) that increases the effectiveness of another agent (herb) when combined with it.

Synergy - The interaction of two or more agents (herbs) so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.

Tincture - Plant medicine prepared by macerating herb usually in alcohol.
