As a young child, I spent time with my great-grandmother in her barnyard garden on the farm in Delcambre, Louisiana. Later in my life I realized that was where I had made the connection with this art. The art of using herbs.
About the Business - Everyone wanted the cream. That's how the business started. In 1994 I made a skin cream for wrinkles, just for my own personal use. My sisters and mother asked me to make some for them. Then their friends wanted some and their friend's friends. My local herb shop asked me to put a few jars on their counter and they sold immediately. Everyone came back for more and the word spread like wildfire. Suddenly I was in business.
Going on the Internet - December 24, 1996, I purchased my brother's old computer. I didn't even know how to turn it on. By January, 1997, I learned enough to get on the Internet using that very old 286 MHz computer and a very slow 24k dial-up connection. It was grueling. Finally, with the help of an experienced web designer, I published my website in April of 1997.
For the next two years the company grew and so did the product line. Then I got a call in 1999. My family needed me. Juggling family and business, I made a few bad decisions. One that I deeply regret is closing the business in 2001. But, I do not regret being there for my family.
The Comeback - I put the website back online in September of 2005 then the hurricanes hit. It was not hurricane Katrina that affected me, it was hurricane Rita. So even though the web pages were online during 2006, I was not.
2007 brought a change of pace for me. After moving to the country in the summer of 2006, my dream of getting back to farm life is a little bit closer. Looking inward to the "desires of my heart," I am carefully planning this route, listening closely for Devine direction every step of the way.
2008 the Herb Shop opened and I am piddling around in it. Someday some of my products may come back online for you. We shall see how things go. The shop is open only when the weather is nice. (See the maps.) It is closed when the weather is too hot or too cold, and sometimes it is closed just because. Hey, I AM RETIRED. I do this only when it is FUN. Meeting you would be my pleasure, but as a quasi recluse my pleasure comes mostly from gardening.
